The Bartelso Game Club
What?
The Gaming Club is an after school club for playing board games and roleplaying games. Examples of board games include Catan and Risk. Examples of role-playing game include Tiny Dungeon (a rules light medieval fantasy game) and Whitestar (Star Wars themed space adventures), and Risus (a comedy story-telling game)
Who?
The Game Club is open to students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Due to limited space, only those students that can expect to regularly attend will be considered. It is my hope that the club will be of interest to many students. For now, I’d like to start small and then go from there.
Parents are always welcome to sit in and play or watch how the club is running. There is no cost to join the club.
Mr. Feldman will provide all the materials.
Why?
Board games and rpgs teach leadership and teamwork, inspire creativity, increase reading, writing, and math skills, and promote problem solving.
Where?
The school library is an ideal location to play.
When?
The Game Club will meet every Thursday from 3:15 to 5:00. Students may bring a snack and a drink.
How?
Mr. Feldman will supervise and teach the students how to play the games. As students learn how to play, each will have an opportunity to take a leadership role and run games for other students, but always under Mr. Feldman’s supervision.
Expectations--the Game Club will be founded upon fair play and good conduct. All students must maintain academic eligibility to participate.
Some of the board games such as Risk deal with warfare on a large scale. Others, such as Catan are about trading commodities and building. Role-playing games do have fantasy battle elements, but these will be on the level of movies such as Narnia, Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars.
